Back when I was learning to play I got interested in the music of Cleo Persinger. Cleo was one of the greats of Mid-Missouri fiddling, but he had passed away before I started playing. Nonetheless, I learned a lot of his tunes and tried to emulate his hard driving, rough and ready style.

Along the way I met an old square dance caller named Wallace Peacher from Harrisburg who was also an avid home recording hobbyist. Wallace was a big man with a booming voice. i always wished I would have gotten to hear him call a dance. He has massive hands with which he would double-clap on the off-beat while I was playing a hoe-down. He recorded many of the great fiddlers like Pete McMahan, Gene Goforth and Cleo, too. Wallace introduced me to Cleo's widow and guitar accompanist, Lillian Persinger.

After meeting her and seeing how much she missed the music I dreamed up the idea of playing a bunch of Cleo's tunes with her doing her guitar work. The recording was made by Mr. Peacher on an old reel-to-reel recorded at his home in Harrisburg on October 6, 1976. I was 19 years old at the time.
